As a World Bible School Internet Teacher, I receive names of individuals interested in enrolling as students from all over the world. Several months ago, James from Thessalonica, Greece enrolled as a World Bible School student. Very soon he began to see that he was lost and in need of a better understanding of what to do to be saved. In one of his lessons, he replied to me saying that he now understood what the Bible taught about what to do in order to be saved and wanted someone to baptize him. Being anxious to have his sins washed away, he approached a preacher of a denomination in Thessalonica to baptize him. But because the preacher did not believe that baptism is essential for salvation, he refused to baptize him. In the meantime, I had contacted Dino Tzanetos, an evangelist and friend of mine in Athens. Dino was quick to respond saying that he and his wife, Mata, were traveling to northern Greece and would contact James while they were there.
On September 7, 2009, James sent me an email message with good news saying that Dino and Mata arranged to meet him in Thessalonica and had baptized him into Christ. Dino later emailed telling me of the event. I was glad to hear Dino say that he spent a good amount of time discussing the gospel with James. Dino said that he had a thorough understanding, having studied from the WBS lessons and from the correspondence I had with him. Listening to Dino and witnessing the event was a friend of James. Dino saw this as an opportunity to take more time than was needed in his discussion with James so that his friend could hear the gospel. We are hoping to hear that James' friend will obey the gospel soon.
That evening, Dino, Mata, James, and his friend went to the Bay of Thessalonica where Dino heard James confess Jesus Christ and immersed him into Christ. James could not wait to share the good news. In his excitment he emailed me and said, "The Lord Has Done It!" "I thank God that my sins -- He has washed them away."
You cannot imagine how thrilled Robin and I are to share this with you. It is especially exciting since Greece has a special place in our hearts, having spent a short time there working in the Athens International Bible Institute. I ask you to pray that the church may be established anew among the immigrants in Thessalonica beginning with James.
Give some thought to becoming a World Bible School Internet or Postal Teacher. God will use you to bring the world to Christ without having to leave home.
